She is the author of six books, including the iconic “Heart and Hands: A Midwife’s Guide to Pregnancy and Birth,” now in it’s 5th updated edition (2019). Her other bestselling work, “Orgasmic Birth: Your Guide to a Safe, Satisfying and Pleasurable Birth Experience,” has been translated into eight languages. Elizabeth served as representative for the Midwives Alliance of North America, and as President of the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council for the USA, and is Co-Founder of the National Midwifery Institute Inc., where she currently serves as the instructor of the Heart & Hands Coursework (available in online format). Her mission is to promote an integrated view of birth, sexuality, family and ecology.

WORKSHOP: Heart & Hands Midwifery Care This workshop will focus on an integrated approach to perinatal caregiving, whether as a primary care provider or allied health professional. Part One: Experience teaches that the demands of this work are great, and often, we reach the point of burnout without fully understanding why. Let’s explore some tools for rejuvenation in our work, tools for greater self-awareness and more joyous, integrated practice that not only benefits our client but ourselves. We will work in small groups and share with the group at large, we will explore healing techniques we can use on the spot during challenging caregiving, and we will discover deeper layers of meaning in our work through trance and guided meditations. Learn more about setting healthy boundaries in caregiving, and explore the steps that lie ahead on your healing path. Part Two: We will get practical, surveying steps we can take when labour stalls or is arrested, building our birth-assisting toolbox as fully as possible. Your case histories of challenging situations welcome! We will practice hands manoeuvres, detail more interventive measure like internal rotation of posterior babies, the best means to handle shoulder dystocia, effective management of haemorrhage, and other complications as time permits. Come be renewed in your love of working with women and families in the perinatal period, with your toolbox well restocked.

ricardo-jonesAFTERNOON WORKSHOP – DR RICARDO JONES IIMHCO is thrilled to confirm Dr Ricardo Jones as an honoured guest. Dr Ric Jones is arguably the world’s leading homeopathic Ob-Gyn. Greatly admired, he worked for decades “catching babies” in Brazil with his close-net team of Obstetrician-Midwife-Doula. Dr Jones is also an immensely respected author on the topic of humanistic obstetrics. Today he travels the world giving training workshops on Obstetric Homeopathy, and lecturing on the Humanization of Birth. Amongst other roles, Dr Jones is also a member of REHUNA (Network for Humanization of Childbirth), member of HumPar (Assoc of Humanization of Childbirth), Consultant for ANDO (Brazil’s National Assoc of Doulas), Consultant for CMM (Uruguay’s Montevideo Maternity Perinatal Institute), Contributor to IMBCI (International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative), and has been a Clinical Physician with the Homeopathic League for 2½ decades. Dr Jones has authored two renown books “Memories of the Glass Man – Reminiscences of a Humanistic Doctor” and “Between the Ears – Birth Stories”. He has also collaborated on many books with other world influencers such as Marcus Renato de Carvalho, Robbie Davis-Floyd, and Sylvie Donna, including “Breastfeeding – Scientific Bases”, “Birth Models that Work”, and “Promoting Normal Birth: Research, Reflections & Guidelines”. WORKSHOP: Homeopathy for Birth Practitioners Homeopathy is a medical knowledge created by Samuel Hahnemann in the late eighteenth century and based on the law of similitude suggested by Hippocrates 400 years before our era. Its basic idea is that a substance capable of causing adaptive changes in our body will also be able to produce healing in a subject afflicted by a disease whose symptoms are similar to those caused by it. Hahnemann’s experiments produced by this discovery, combined with the analysis of hundreds of other experiments and thousands of new researchers, produced the contemporary “Materia Medica”, a set of more than 3,000 substances evaluated in their symptomatology that help in the treatment of everyday diseases. Homeopathy has served especially in acute disorders, from cholera epidemics and scarlet fever outbreaks, but also in changes in the natural physiology of the parturition process. We know that childbirth can undergo a number of outside influences that have the potential to subvert its natural course. Not only the pathophysiological aspects and the delay of progression due to poor positioning, but also social, psychological and emotional influences can obstruct the physiological course of the fetus through the birth canal. It is in these circumstantial disorders that homeopathy can act in a gentle and safe way so that the birth occurs with safety and satisfaction. This workshop will address the history of homeopathy, its status in the contemporary science, its fall and its resurgence at the end of last century, offering an auspicious future for the twenty-first century that begins. We will understand the use of repertoires, drug formulations, dilutions, dynamizations, Miasmas and their concepts and the use of the most important and useful medications during pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium. We will also address the multiple uses of the main drugs studied by homeopathy with a spectrum of action acting on the pregnancy-puerperal cycle, as well as on breastfeeding and newborn. Dr Ric Jones’ focus is the use of a safe treatment strategy with no side effects, without negative interference with other medications or contemporary medical approaches and with positive results for pregnancy, birth, puerperium and the newborn.
